About this place
For a drink with sashimi, a tempting combination is thick-cut sashimi and the house-special doteyaki, a stew of beef and offal simmered in miso. One visitor enjoyed substantial cuts of salmon, yellowtail and tuna, and said the generous serving of boldly flavoured doteyaki made a good accompaniment to a bottle of beer. The menu lists bottled Kirin Classic Lager and Kirin Ichiban Shibori; hot sake and other Japanese sake are also available.
For a lighter spread, or a leisurely drink with something fried, the tempura assortment is another option. One diner described a seven-piece selection including prawn, onion, shishito pepper, shiso leaf, chikuwa fish cake and aubergine, and praised the texture of the batter. Sushi choices include the Seafood Selection, with tuna, squid and salmon, and the Sushi Assortment, served as five pieces of nigiri and three pieces of thin roll. They offer an easy way to make fish the focus of a meal.
At lunchtime, set meals pair a main dish with rice, miso soup, a small side dish and pickles. The pork ginger and chicken nanban set meals are listed with free refills of rice and miso soup. In the evening, diners can also choose from individual dishes or the single-serving hot-pot menu, which includes beef sukiyaki hot pot and tomato and cheese hot pot. The range suits anything from dining alone to sharing several dishes with a group.
